The rebuild begins
Thought I might start a thread detailing the progress of the spider.
So far the GTV is about 80% broken, I plant to use the below to remedy issues with the spider...
META Alarm ECU - I've not had remote locking or an alarm since about two years ago...it'll be a very happy day when its working again.
All 4 Bearings - They had all been replaced on the donor car within the last 20k so are all a bit fresher than mine.
Interior - Undecided whether I will change the dash colour to black from the standard blue in the Zoe but I'm defo taking the cloth seats. Leather is too cold in the winter and too hot in the summer, I've no idea why convertibles are fitted with leather!
Variator - I was going to sell the engine complete with history and the belts having been done but turns out I'm just going to harvest the variator out of it unless anyone wants a new engine with history, belts and variator done?
Windscreen The spider's windscreen had started to de-laminate on the corners, fortunately my mate Alan fits windscreens for a living and has been able to get the screen out of the GTV without incident...no mean feat....
Suspension - Removing the two sub frames of each car and working out what's the best of the both, having them powder coated and put back on the spider.
Once all that's done, here's what I have planned for the spider:
Full engine rebuild - Pretty self explanatory...coils, shells, valves etc...the most exciting thing is the lightened flywheel from Autodelta that's replacing the original. All mounts will be refreshed with Powerflex bushes.
Gearbox - Got a Quaife differential from Ned at Autolusso, clutch was done about 10k ago but will be on the look-out for any necessary maintenance.
Brakes - I toyed with upgrading to the 305 Brembos but I'm going to give the existing setup a chance first so I'm upgrading to drilled, grooved and vented discs all round with EBC Greenstuff pads. Fluid flushed and refreshed, maybe the hoses depending on condition.
Suspension - All components will be blasted and powder coated (silver after the recent rear rebuild I saw on here). Both front arms are being replaced with OE arms (after a brief discussion with Autolusso) rather than Powerflexed, front ARB bushes will be Powerflexed, full rear will be Strongflexed with the sport bushes. I'm experimenting with Novitec's Stradale kit on shocks/springs front and rear, I may regret it but I'm willing to give it a go, mainly because the Koni prices bother the hell out of me for what is; a pressurised chamber...
Exhaust - Cat back s/s with dual exit and original shape chrome pipe (hate round exits on these cars)
Bodywork - Underside treated, front cup spoiler, cup or Autodelta wings (undecided), cup side skirts and Autodelta upper apron witha full respray.
I've got loads more I want to do but this is going to bring the car close to where it should be underneath and on the surface...suggestions are welcome if there's anything I should be doing at the same time as this work...Enjoy the pics
