All I know is that the series 2 had a chrome insert around the shield, where as the series 1 just had a plain one

Someone else should know a bit more

Re: GTV phase 1 and 2? Confused.

somewhere around 03.98 phase II went to production.

I know of a few things, probably a lot more then below:

Phase II:
-Quite a lot of electronics is new
-Face lifted interior (Steering wheel and center console most noticeable)
-Side skirts/sills colour coded

Re: GTV phase 1 and 2? Confused.

To add to the list.

Phase 2 brought full climate control with the face lift interior and on the TS an uprated 155bhp engine (CF2) for a couple of years until it was downrated back to 150bhp to meet euro emissions (CF3 sometime around 2000?). No idea about the V6's because technically the Phase 1's didn't make it to the UK and only arrived c1999-2000 iirc although some were imported.

If I'm wrong, someone correct me please

Re: GTV phase 1 and 2? Confused.

Basically what they all said!

New interior with different seats, dials, centre console, arm rest, new electrics and some ancillary buttons (for mirrors, odometer reset etc moved around). Aircon upgraded to manual climate control. They also made some special edition Ph2 cars with fully colour coded interior (either blue or red).

On the exterior the sills and lower portions of the bumper were colour coded, the grille got a chrome surround and the engine was tweaked. The standard 16" alloys also changed along with little things such as brake pad manufacturer (from Lucas to ???). As far as I know the 2.0V6 turbo was only available as a Ph1.

Easiest way to spot a Ph1 from a Ph2 is the interior as it is very hard/nigh on impossible to change certain parts over, whereas the exterior is very easy to 'bring up to date'.

For the phase 3 there were major exterior changes (a new nose!) along with a change in standard alloys and exhaust back box (from the nice looking chrome oval shape to the crappy round ones).

On the interior the centre console changed subtely again and the seats are also slightly different (more ribbing on the leather I think?)

The 3.0 became the 3.2 and you could order a special high level rear spoiler that wrapped around the back window.

Think that about covers it?

-1998 916 Spider 2.0TS Lusso-
H&S Corse stage 1.
CATCAMs stage 1 cams with Savali custom ECU remap.
305mm discs with 166 4-pot callipers.
Ragazzon exhaust mid section.
Biscione Racing 2x70mm rear section.
Polybush suspension.
17" Zender Siena wheels with 3mm rear spacers.
etc etc etc!

Re: GTV phase 1 and 2? Confused.

Pretty much what they all said, except:

Early Phase II cars don't have the auto-drop windows, I think this coincided with the move in production from Alfa to Pininfarina in 2000.

The Phase II V6 was sold in the UK from around September 98.
