Murray, The pans are corroded beyond safe repair. The offside one has a small hole where no hole should be. I guess in theory I could clean them and weld a repair patch, but it would be a stopgap at best. To be honest I'm quite happy to pay £250 for a pair of refurbished, powerflexed and powder coated pans, but the dog bones are my main concern now. Even second hand items seem to be £55-60 each, and that's with no guarantee that their bushes aren't kaput. I guess my best option would be to refurbish the ones I have.
So I guess the next question would be does one require a hydraulic press to remove these bushes and install new ones?
gx337, you are of course absolutely correct. My car has 100,000 miles now so a bit of wear is to be expected. I also have to remind myself that replacing the front end parts cost me less than £100. So I should in theory be able to refurbish all four corners for less than £500 and get years of service from them.
