Wash away those MAF blues!

Just thought I would share it this as it comes up a lot on the forum

I've had a problem with an uneaven idle and a flat spot at 5000 RPM for a while. As I don't have a any vacuum leaks I assumed it was the MAF, but before I ordered another one I thought I would have a go at cleaning it with one of those utrasonic cleaners meant for CDs & Jewellery and (to my surprise) it worked. No more flat spot and a much smoother idle.

If you are going to bin it anyway it's certainly worth a try. The only hard bit was that the two torx screws holding the MAF to the housing were siezed so I had to grind them off and replace them with machine screws & nuts.

Like your spirit mate, give it a go, too many on here just replace parts with no logic or evidence to support their actions, especially in relation to EGR and the MAF.

All can be sometimes rescued with a good clean
