Hi Guys Thanks for all the advice and interest,
So I reluctantly took the head off again and found the cause of the tapping was indeed a metal head gasket! which I replaced with the slightly thicker composite one. I also changed the Big end bearing shells while I was at it, the crank was in good condition with no scores or marks.
Being driving around for a few days with no dramas and plan on changing the oil and filter at 500k.
I also powerflexed the rear end, and would add that the rear camber is just as it was pre-flexing and no creaking whilst im driving is nice reward.
Definitely the hardest job was removing/replacing the oil sump and still got bumps on my head from hitting it on the axle stands.
Next task Air bag light is on so will get on that.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
Parts changed: Cam belt+balance Belt+pulleys, Cam Variator+seal , Hydraulic lifters *16, head gasket +head bolts, Big end shells. And powerflex the rear end.
This T.S is saved.
