Completely off topic

as in the post title this completely off topic for GTV's so I may be flamed .

I visited my dad yesterday and he was having rummage through the loft and turned up some old Haynes car manuals, one was for a Talbot Alpine ( anyone of our more mature members remember these ) my very first car !
I rebuilt that car with boggo and the daily mirror and prayed it would pass the mot, it did and I was now young free and mobile .Remember those days ? You could go anywhere any time and not have to beg your dad to "borrow the car"
Any way the post is slightly Alfa related as we found a Haynes manual for An Alfa Sud ti, most ashamedly I can't even recall the car but I did change my cars more often than my crackers in my youth.
The Alpine, I wrote it off three weeks after passing my test, absolutely gutted, it had velour seats and electric windows, oh the joy of electric windows in the early eighties, young just don't know they are soooo lucky now, ( meldrew moment over) .
Which do you remember the most, first car or love, was it an Alfa or a piece of French tissue paper masquerading as a car ???

As you can tell by this ramble it's the Christmas over indulgence starting early, whisky out car on trickle charge and a merry Christmas to you all.

P.s anyone want a Alfasud Haynes manual, very very used and oily but free !

First car love came after 20 years of driving/car ownership in the form of a 916 Alfa V6

There, we're back on track....

30 years of car ownership, 916 Alfa V6 not the first but the most needy, definitely love/hate .

My first was a Lancia beta, cambelt failed in the seven sisters road. I left it there and phoned a scrap man to collect it !
30 years later my 916 has suffered the same fate, difference is I'm spending 1000's having it rebuilt, I love this car !!

I bought my first car just after Christmas 50 years ago...! A 1958 Mk8 3.4 litre Jaguar, what youngster these days would have a Jag? This was followed by 14 other Jags plus 3 Lotuses an MGB and various more mundane hacks, then I went Italian and finished [so far] with the Spider, which is tucked up for the winter. Merry Xmas to all and a trouble free New Year - with even cheaper petrol - yippee!

I've had 3 Renault 4's...Loved each one and would have another for fun. Push pull gearstick coming out of the dash. Great fun.

My first car was one of these. Had a brown vinyl roof and a lovely sounding V6

My First car was a Fiat 600D from -63. I bought it in -86 for peanuts. It was in a terrible condition and I spent more time welding on it than driving.

Two years ago at the annual Italian Car meeting on the 1:st of May we met again. Now totally restored with disc brakes and engine from a Fiat 127. A very happy reunion!

Bertone X19 was my first set of wheels of freedom.
When I actually say freedom well you know !
I wonder how much of an apprenticeship wage that would take to do now as a fresh driver.
Mind you less than my fellow apprentices 2.8 Capri those were the days when you could buy a car and the insurance wasn't the " ball and chain"

1980 - I finally "inherit" my Grandma's Anglia 105e. I had just started my apprenticeship at Lambs of Loughton and had access to some decent mechanics (Where are you know Keith Williams?).
Burtons Engineering was too close by and over the next few years, Rosie (My Gran's name) went from a humble, bog standard 997cc to a full blown 1658cc Burton Special complete with Carlos Fandango wheels and an exhaust you could crawl up to service.
We parted company some time in the early Nineties due to rust (I still blame Thatcher) and I miss her to this day.
