Just a heads up for anyone who sees this car and may be tempted to buy:
I saw the car on ebay last week with one day left on the auction. The big attraction (as well as the colour for me) was the calimed 42k mileage and more or less he described it as mint. It was up for £2495 on the auction but as it was too far away I didn't bid as I wanted to inspect it first.
Contacted the seller and arranged to go down there today.
On arrival the first thing I noticed was the engine was warm. Undone the oil filler cap and lo and behold there was present a nice coating of 'single cream' in the top of it! Also checked the level of oil and it was halfway between max and min.
The guy claimed the gunge in the cap was 'condensation'.
He also said he hadn't driven it today although to me after looking underneath there was water dripping from the suspension, sills and the underside of the engine, and as I say the engine was warm.
It had had a new hood fitted but there was a big gap where it rests on the rear wing on the OS.
The fuse box cover lay in the boot with the screw fasteners missing, which perhaps indicated that there was some electrical issues with the car that someone had been trying to remedy. (also the fuses behind the little cover in the boot had been disturbed.)
I had already decided to walk away but he did start up the car (I hadn't bothered) and although he said the cambelt etc had just been done, the engine sounded like a Perkins diesel more than a TS!
I suspect the mileage was genuine (he said he had MOT's etc to back it up), but I dont feel that the car had been well cared for.
I'm no expert but having been the owner of a Spider for two and a bit years now, it didn't seem - overall, too good to me.
Oh and just one other, thing the guy (who seemed plausible in many ways), claims he is selling it on behalf of a friends widow, so he doesn't have his name on the V5.
So if anyone see's this car for sale anywhere be cautious...
