I recently bought a stunning spider, phase 2, leather, climate etc with full alfa service history ( cambelt changed at 39000 ). The following weekend I was sitting in it enjoying the sunshine and reading the manuals and service history in a bit more detail when I discover that the perfect service record wasn't for my car at all.
Chassis number, reg, and pre-delivery check totally wrong. Oh the Horror!
A few frantic calls to DVLA and then the guy who sold it to me and all was well. The seller was a dealer selling said car for a mate's wife ( this much i knew).
Turns out that Hubby also had a 147 sold some weeks earlier by the same guy. Both cars had been lovingly serviced together hence chance of mix up. Service books have since been reunited with their correct cars and all is well ,service history is perfect for my car too as advertised.
But it got me thinking that as well as checking vin plate chassis number etc with V5 I had been seduced by the lovely service history and failed to notice it was the wrong book. Is this easily done or am I just thick?
In my defence, the seller hadn't noticed either and at least I spotted it after 4 days, the other owner would I presume still be unaware if I hadn't seen it. So that's 2 of us thick then!
