Re: Anyone know where to get a good aftermarket warranty?
We took a GTV in part exchange a wile ago and member of my staff bought it for them self and I thought it would be a good idea to put warranty on it “just in case” we could not use the warranty company we use for our third year warranties, Car Care Plan due to the age of the car. We took a warranty out with Warranties Direct.
About 2 months later I was driving the car and there was a big bang, lots of smoke and that was the end of that for the engine.
We recovered the car back here and contacted the warranty company and it was as though we had to prove it was covered, in the end we were told we would have to get a new engine fitted by an Alfa dealer or an Alfa specialist and pay for it then we could make a claim once the work had been completed, I booked the car in to Veloces of London who fitted a new engine and I settled the bill, approximately £2,500 if I remember correctly.
We than submitted a claim and it was instantly rejected under the grounds that no major damage was covered for the first three months of the cover. Had I known this or it was made clear when we first contacted them I would have fitted a second hand engine my self.
All in all £500 for a warranty that was not worth the paper it was written on from Warranties Direct, thanks.
We use Car Care Plan LTD who seams to be OK but we can only cover a car we are selling, this to stop people buying cars with problems than buying a warranty to try to claim on the policy and saying there was no faults with the car when they bought it.
At the end of the day any warranty other than the manufactures warranty is an insurance policy and we all know what insurance companies are like at paying out, very keen to take your money up front but when it comes to making a claim, well we all know the rest.
