Clacking sound from the gearbox area
Driving home tonight I heard a worrying sound from what sounds like the gearbox area.
Its a loud "clacking" sound.
Changes speed with engine speed. Its not constant....comes and goes. Couldn't hear it in reverse.
Put the clutch down and it disappears, and no sound when coasting in neutral. Press the brake and it gets quieter or disappears.
It seems to be worse when turning sharp right on full lock, although still very noticeable in a straight line. Also seems much louder when lifting off the throttle. At first I thought it was something loose knocking...accelerate, lift off.....clack clack clack.
Clutch feels fine, gears change easily.
Has anyone got any ideas.
Its a 1996 TS, which had a new clutch around 30k miles ago.
