Re: stiff gear shift (gtv)
We have a 147 and a GTV. The 147 gear shift nearly seized up, it was a pig untill I removed the bracket from the top of the gearbox and polished out the bore where the 'rocking lever' runs. I concluded that the buildup of oxide was pressing the plastic bushes onto the shaft of the lever. It's been free since. I haven't had the problem with the gtv and don't know for sure of the principle is the same, although the arrangement is certinaly similar to casual observation. I oiled it just recently and it seems to have made a fractional difference but that was just for amusement. The 147 now returns under the force of the spring which it certainly wouldn't do before. Incidentaly I started by disconecting the cables at the gearbox end to see where the problem lay - the lever immediately went free so I knew whick end of the system to check.
Doesn't say that in the manual
