From section 55-31 of the workshop manual.
I think the car uses Bosch 5.3 ABS System. There are inductive sensors on all 4 wheels. There is a diagnostic port T8 situated under the steering wheel on LHD cars, but it could be anywhere for RHD. Will there even be one if my car is OBD-II compliant?
The ABS light indicates a problem with the ABS system (no suprises so far). The additional Handbrake Light indicates a problem with the EBD (Electronic Brake Distribution) system. When they are lit the ABS and EBD are switched off as I found out by the way the car twitched as I locked the brakes earlier.
There is a diagnostic procedure initiated by earthing pin 1 on the T8 connector and watching the dash lights.
The memorised code errors will be cleared by switching the ignition 20 times.
I'm looking at the WM and it lists the Bosch 5.3 ABS system for 97 Spider/GTV so that includes the 1.8TS, 2.0TS, V6 and TB versions, and I can't find a later revision to suggest otherwise.
So the RHD GTV uses the Bosch ABS 2SI. Any idea what the differences are to the 5.3 ?
I've just found in the variations of RHD section 55-A3 pg 25 detailing the location of the T8 connector somewhere down the left side of the car, perhaps near to the Fuel Cutoff switch, so out to the garage again for me.
