Collapsed air intake pipe
1996 Phase 1 TS
I pulled on to a dual carriageway this evening, and while accelerating in 2nd, the engine just died....revs dropped to idle and no acceleration whatsoever. I put it in 5th and limped up to a layby which fortunately was only 1/4 mile along the road.
Anyway, popped the bonnet...tried the throttle by hand.....and the intake hose from the throttle body to the top of the 90 degree bend which goes down into the airbox, it completely collapsed, hence no power....let the throttle off, it would pop up again.
I gave it all a good squeezing and squashing, and then it was fine again.
I'm assuming the pipe is coming to the end of its life (18yrs/170'000 miles).
Looking at some of the older threads, replacement pipes are like hens teeth.....so is there an induction kit of some sort which is a direct replacement? Or is it more a case of buying the silicone pipes/steel tube individually?
Thanks for your help.
