I'm new to the Spider / GTV and have got some questions about the keys and alarm.
I've got a V reg 2000 car. Should it have a master key?
The keys I've got with the car are an engraved red key without an integrated alarm button (which after searching on here I think may be a valet key) and a red key which should have an integrated alarm button but the button and the circuit board are missing.
Should my car have the red key with an integrated alarm button, or should it have a separate fob for the alarm?
Ideally I want to get the car returned to OEM spec and get the original alarm working.
You need at minimum what's shown in the attached photo. The most important piece to have is the brown key. Without that you can't program any new keys into the immobiliser system. It also helps to have the code card for this.
When the car was new it would've shipped with two remote keys, one valet key, code card, brown master key and two alarm box keys (the small barrel key)
The immobiliser system and alarm/remote locking system are completely seperate. The alarm system is controlled by the receiver unit which is part of the interior light. You need a 4-digit code to program this and from my experience very few car's or their owners still have this code. There are guys about who can 'read' the code off of the receiver (as you don't have any working remotes) for you.
The first order of business in my opinion is to get a working brown key (you may have to get hold of a used ECU or find someone who can re-program it) once that's done you can sort the remote locking and alarm.
