And a another thing i forget is about the myth because it is a myth about reliability, firtsly "electronics" here in my country german cars are superb, japanesse reliable, and italian cars rubish, and this is the most common opinion to people that they think read or hear commoly from someone else that he had an italian car.
Of course this is at least idiotic or the result of marketing and opinions from tv reporters or better showmans that they have opinion about everything in motorsport. For example my spider has electronics (ALL OF THEM) from bosch (ecu, throtle, immo,....), (personally i prefer magneti maraelli), now if my spider fails e.g. maf sensor, idiots start its italian its unreliable, and the worst is that they re dumb so much that they dont want to hear what kind of electonics this car have. it's like saying that an audi a4 is more reliable with motronic 7.3.1, than an alfa 147 with motronic 7.3.1, how idiotic is that or bosch is supplying with defective ecus only alfa.
Secondly in terms or mechanical reliability i beleve that is abigger myth that alfas are unreliable. i never had any serious issue with my twin spaks 1.6, and 2.0 too, they need the maintenance that users manual say, nothing more nothing less, if the owner decides not to change cam belts in 3-4 years and change them in 9 years its not the car unreliable its the owner competely idiot, or if you change oil after 50000 km, The only issue i had was the variator in 1.6 that i believe its an issue from the factory, my 2 litter ts hadnt this issue.
And reliabillity is a very open discussable matter, yes a toyota 1.3 litter low revving engine is more reliable because of the nature of the vechicle, it has not the same reliability with a mazda rx-8, But other machine one and the other, erery car it can drive fast it is not as reliable as a shopping troley, and it consumes fuel this is fundamental
