Clutch Replacement

Hi Guys/Gals,

I'm new to the thread and am picking-up my GTV 2.0 ts on Saturday. Really looking forward to it!

It has been some 6 years since my last Alfa ownership. [no this is not a confession].

Anyway to the point. The GTV I am purchasing has quite a nice oil leak between the bell housing and engine! I am assuming that it will need the crank oil seal replacing [judging by the colour of the oil]. I will change the clutch and release bearing at the same time. The price I paid obviously reflects this fact, beyond this problem, the car is in excellent condition.

I am struggling to find the usual Haynes manual. Is this job fairly straight forward. I read a post on the replacement for a V6 which suggested that in that case it was not.

I am practical, having built numerous kit cars in the past.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Re: Clutch Replacement

You can get a tech CD off eBay which should help, someone on here recently changed the clutch and might be able to help you. Do a search on the forum.

Good luck

Re: Clutch Replacement

Sounds like engine out to me - I think its too much of a struggle in-situ. Then you get to see all sorts of other 'little' jobs of course...!

Re: Clutch Replacement

Your analysis sounds about right. Changing the clutch plate and thrust bearing is a good idea and you may want to change the gearbox oil seal at the same time. I don't believe that you have to take the engine out. Officially, you're supposed to remove the subframe but I'm told that that there is a way round this which saves a lot of time. Let us know how you get on.
