Hi guys...some feedback on my ignition issue.
I decided to take a look at it this weekend with some free time that I had.
I dismantled(broke) the cover and got to the wiring...just to find the yellow connection/plug under the sterring wheel to be loose. I fitted it properly, connected the batery and the key turned back and the steering wheel moved again. I was extremely happy!
I put in the red master key and voila...the car started...but...but...it did not want to turn off again. I tried to stall it again but this did not work as the alternator was keeping it alive! i then disconnected the rear plug of the ignition, a round black plug that looks like something the ignition connects to and then turns as the ignition turns. I swtiched this plug/switch to OFF and the car switched off... I connected it again to the ignition and turned the key and on the 1st turn the car started...so the round black switch is clearly "off" or out of position.
I tried to get it to the right position and it worked but the igntion cannot switch the car off via the key...it starts and then stays there...it won't turn back via the igntion key. And to make matters worse... the Key Code light stays on..
now...do I replace the entire ignition or do I replace that round black switch as well?
I'm looking at buying a used ignition with keys and ignition ECU, and reusing my keys for my locks as I never used my alarm to unlock the car anyway, I always used the keys.
Does that sound right?
2nd hand ignition with its keys and its computer.
keep original keys for door locks
Do I still need to get keys coded etc?
