mot due and pre-check brought up poss h brake weakness - seems pretty good to me and feel if some of the travel could be taken up it would be better than average
The inner cable can seize inside the outer cable so even though the handbrake is stiff the respective caliper is not been moved by the handbrake cable.
If the cables are moving free then its unlikely the cable adjustment will improve the rear wheels locking up its possible a caliper/ slider needs cleaning or the caliper is not working properly internally via the handbrake.
you can tell if its the caliper or the cable by the efficiency of the rear brakes under normal braking. If they work fine but the handbrake is still weak then its the cable. if not then you'll need to look at the calipers (after making sure you dont have any air in the system)
it works linearly and holds on any reasonable / probably all slopes - it is just that by the time it is truly biting it is running out of travel - foot brake seems fine - thx for comments
Mines the same. Got new pads and discs ( the pistons wound in easily so can't be siezed) but handbrake is still pretty crap. It passed MOT but handbrake turns are out the question even on gravel. Feels like the cables are just stretching which is possible I guess
Maybe check all the cable mounting points are intact. The ones on the spring pans and the ones by where the antiroll bar bushes are fastened to the subframe get rotten.Wont stop the handbrake working, but will reduce the efficiency
yes mine has that feeling of stretching once some braking is felt
