Low Speed Fan Temp - That old chestnut again
Okay I've been using the GTV for a couple of days, and I find the temp the low speed fan comes on at worrying.
First off the Temp guage in the car overreads by about 10-15deg, but on a motorway, or in free moving traffic the car sits at 90 give or take, so I guess that's nearer 80 real temp. However my real concern is the fan doesn't kick until 99deg actual, so it looks like 110+ on the guage, which is quite scary when you're sat in traffic, watching it rise up slowly. I drove it today with the laptop on the passenger seat, and confirm that is the temp the ECU sees when it comes on either stationary or after a motorway run, and then crawling up the slip road etc.
I have checked both low-speed and high speed fan work, although thankfully I haven't found at what temperature high speed fan comes on.
My understanding is that this temperature is influenced by the fan resistor mounted on the back of the radiator. Mine is currently a brand new 0.23Ohm Green one. This was replaced like for like with the one that was in the car (albeit in 2 pieces) when I recently replaced the radiator.
So firstly is this the right one for a 2000W 2.0TS with I believe a CF2 Engine. And secondly would changing this for a different resistor possibly lower the low speed fan temperature to something nearer 90 real world, which I believe is where we should be.
Or am I been over cautious and should I just accept that the fans runs when it's need and not a moment before.
