Unable to locate P1 fuel gauge and sender. Any ideas??
My question is for our 1996 P1 gtv spider. We would like to replace our seemingly non-working fuel gauge and/or fuel sender. We havent been able to locate either the fuel gauge or sender (tried places like eb spares and such), and as most of you know the factory doesnt produce them anymore. Not practical to have them fixed here either as the last alfa dealer over here was in the late 1990`s i believe.
So i`m wondering what you guys do for something like this. Have you tried substituting a different gauge for instance (assuming a defective gauge)? There is probably only one variety of veglia borletti gauges sold over here, might be gauges from the 1990`s or older. The sending units for these gauges though are the float with wire variety, not the long tube style sender on our 916. The vendors dont even know what cars they were originally for... I realize that they might not give correct readings... Do the senders pretty much work like the traditional float on a wire that you could bend to somewhat calibrate the readings? Might there be any danger to the float we now have or to a different gauge we might try (like frying one or both?)?? Thanks!
