Re: Bonnet Release Mechanism :- Help!

Mine lifts properly.

I'd be inclined to look at the mechanism.

What I think is happening is that the retaining wire is being pulled away from the lug with the spring on it but only enough to allow the lug to start to lift (under pressure from the spring).

When you release the lever, the wire returns to its normal place and that pulls the bonnet lug down again.

I VERY doubt it's weak springs. The spring is designed to be compressed to the degree it is when the bonnet is closed. You would have to compress it past the point where it starts to deform to permanently shorten it.. that's the whole point of using a spring.

On the other hand, the wire retaining tang could become bent or more likely the cable that pulls it open is becoming stretched and is therefore not pulling the wire enough for the bonnet/lug to be completely released.

Re: Bonnet Release Mechanism :- Help!

I think you are probably right Ralf S, I should actually go out and do something about it rather than guessing here. But your description makes more sense
