Re: Aig Bag ECU Issues (again!)

Good news! sorted!

Did they indicate why the throttle ECU had got in a twist?

Also to other readers, was there not a process for reseting the throttle settings somewhere, by switching the ignition on and doing a dance or something like that?

no there was no 'in depth' diagnostic as to why the ECU had mis-read the throttle, but to be honest I'm just glad it's fixed.

I seem to remember something to do with that dance you were talking about.. key in key out turn on turn off, wait for 60 seconds, make cup of tea, etc... have no idea what it was really.!

Anyway - the Garage I'd like to recommend is Jim Litchfields in high Brooms, Tunbridge Wells.. top service, not pricey, useful people

Re: Aig Bag ECU Issues (again!)

Yeah, had exactly the same problem. Alfa dealers quoted 410 quid to fix it, new airbag ECU they insisted. Like you, thought that was an outrageous amount to get little red light turned off.
For the next service took it to independent specialist who reset the system for 20 squid.
Just a caution to all new Alfies, delears know nothing and will rip you off.

Re: Aig Bag ECU Issues (again!)

I've a feeling that not only ECU's but throttle position sensors (potentiometers) are getting blamed and changed for nothing, just connector problems like the airbag light. Any outfit ought to suspect the wiring first unless they want this sort of bad press. I think the problem is the mindset in the workshop, plug it in and do what it says, don't dare engage with the problem.
