how much I need to get replaced or fixed! Any further words of wisdom greatly appreciated.
I bought, and replaced the whole assembly, motor, mounting plate, connecting arms and spindles. It all comes out in one lump and replacing the complete thing avoids having to re-align the motor shaft and cam position. If you buy a replacement from AR you'll get the lot too, and a nasty shock when they present you with the bill, around £250 !!! The only bit that was faulty was the motor, but that won't come out on it's own anyway. If you need tips on removing (and replacing) the assembly, let me know.
what's the reference to this "in/out of park" thing? I still have the issues with my wipers, but am I missing something?
When the wipers are powered up, they sweep the screen but don't return to the parked position. When they are turned off, they make one further sweep and then park themselves. There is a mechanical reason for this, the motor is going in the opposite direction. Don't ask me why AR went down this over elaborate route, I've never thought 'I really wish my wipers stopped half way up the screen until I turn them off' but that's the way they did it and we're stuck with it.
Suffice to say, I'm chuffed that mine are fixed (for now) and that I have a ready made spare for next time they forget what they are supposed to do.
Biggest relief of all was that I didn't have to find the intermittent control unit. Wherever they've put it, accessible it ain't !!!
Of course, now they are working, the sun has come out. Doubt that'll last long though
