Hard to tease out some of the running costs from the restoring/uprating, but...
I bought my V6 for £6k from Veloces with 39k on the clock as a very original example of exactly the car I wanted (2001 V6 Mk2 Aero), with a belt service completed before sale in 2010. 4 years of fantastic motoring later, it's done another 40k, and whilst it's cost me money, it's cost a lot less than a new Focus (for example) would have, been just as reliable, and been just a bit more fun.
It's my main ride as well as one of the things that makes me happy, and I'm too old to deal with hassle or not getting to work, so I've needed to keep it right, and enjoyed doing that (or enjoyed paying people who can to keep it right, to be honest). It's had a second hand alfaholics exhaust, a new maf (since veloces fitted a TS filter), a powerflex rear suspension rebuild, anew radiator, disks and pads all round, konis on the front, now a q2 and another belt service, plus fixes on the previously fitted powerflex (which I now wish I had never had done) and new springpans to deal with corrosion and get 4 of the rose joints back in. New windscreen next week. Oh, and the Lepsons wheel refurb and the Q2 last week...and over the 4 years I have bought most of the genuine bling that was available at time of purchase - Zender pedals & rest, door pins, chrome tread plates, new mats etc., and some quality leather replacements for the gear and handbrake gaiters, and the door arm rests.
In short, cost of ownership ex petrol, insurance tax etc but including purchase price would be close to £12k - and that's without the 2 new tyres a year it eats.
But then that's just over 30p a mile, which for this quality of driving and ownership experience is silly cheap...and I have have a totally sorted seriously beautiful soon to be classic car that I intend to do another 70k in.
So I'm happy. New oil cooler & pipes along with the service next summer, I expect. But back to the title of this thread...where does it end? Not sure, but I know when - and that will be never, I'm pleased to say.
