Not going to disrespect a garage, but.......
I took my GTV v6 to a local specialist to have the cambelt done. I supplied the parts so I could bring the costs down and the job was done. During that time, they also sorted out the annoying water leak (see previous threads) which was an extra 4 hours labour as the engine needed to be shifted.
So, cambelt done a leak sorted, I took it for a leisurely drive back home and suddenly calump, calump, calump...stop.
I checked the engine bay, thinking, I've done something wrong here, and started her up again. No luck!
Looking down I noticed a belt had frayed....
It turns out the fan belt had come off and twisted because the tensioner was worn.
I took it back to the same garage and was only charged £106 for the tensioner and belt, but was told that sometimes they have to decide which part to put right first so were probably aware there was a problem.
My question is this......
Why would a problem like this surface when there was not a problem before?
Is £106 quite cheap?
If there was a problem, why didn't the reputable garage at least tell me this?
I went with them on recommendation of this forum, so feel the last laugh is on me. As much as I love the Alfa, bad specialist garages put me off the marque altogether, so I'm hoping this is just a one off, but I can't see myself using them again, unless it really was my fault.
Your opinions please....
