How much should I ask for my V6?

Hi all,

Have anyone had recent experience of buying or selling? I've lost touch with prices recently and was wondering how much I should be asking for my GTV? Also, where is the best place to sell it? Classifieds on here? Ebay? Elsewhere?

It's a '99 V 3 litre V6. I've had it about 5 years, it has 85K miles. It's got a big Jamie Porter history including new spring pans (V6 with rose joints), radiator, oil cooler, discs etc. It is completely standard with factory fitted aero kit and 17" teledials. I'd describe the interior as pretty good and the exterior as OK. It has a scratch on the bonnet and a couple of car park dings. Three of the teles could do with a refurb.

The engine is strong and the gear box is good. The cambelt has only done about 20k but is about ready for a change on age. Every so often the first fan will not cut in, but the second always does. It still has the original stereo with the CD autochanger but the display has bled. I have all 4 keys. It has no warning lights on

I stuck it in the garage about 18 months ago with a leaking master cylinder but I've had that fixed now and put it through a MOT this week. The battery seems to have survived the layup.

I'm after a "sell it easily without any hassles" price. I'm thinking about 2K but is this too much? Too little? Any other tips?

Thanks in advance

p.s it's not taxed or insured so test drives will be problematical. Problem?

Help!

Struggling to place an ad in the classifieds. I'm away from home at the moment and I can't upload any pictures from my iPad. I'll try again tomorrow from a laptop.

Decided to sell at £1950 to take into account the things listed above. I'll give it a fortnight and then stick it on ebay if needs be.

Thanks

Rob

Ps it is a phase 2 cf2 6 speed gearbox model.
Pps, forgot it's also had new doglegs with the spring pans and idlers, tensioners etc with the last cam belt

£1950 does not seem unreasonable given your description.

Very honest of you to mention the cam belt which is something a potential buyer will try to negotiate down. If they do just tell them that's why it is up at £1950 and not £2500.

TBH I'd have put it up for at least £2500 for starters anyway.

Thanks Keithy, hope to spend a bit of time on here soon.

Well, to answer my own question - about £1500 I think. I had one viewing but fortunately the engine sounded like an absolute bag of spanners on the inspection which gave me enough time to decide I really wanted to keep her. All good now with a bottle of lifter treatment and an oil change.

Sadly the battery didn't survive the storage and the clutch feels heavier than when it was put away. I've got a coolant and gearbox oil change to do and it will need a cambelt this year.

Happily the intermittent fault with the slow engine fan has fixed itself! It now gets quickly up to 90 in traffic and the fan cycles on and off in approx 10 second intervals.

Oddly, I'm now getting an injector (engine management) light on and off for the few seconds the fan comes on, my first light ever in the last 6 years. Weird, but quite friendly really. Can't work out what it is trying to tell me given that all is well??

All in all, I'm really happy to be keeping her. It just feels right. :)
