One of the few things I dislike about my GTV is the boot spoiler. It's just a preference thing ... some like them but I'm thinking about removing mine. Problem is here in Australia there's not too many GTV's let alone red boot lids to swap out for.
It's also a little more complicated as I might suspect that my car has had a repaint at some stage ... or that my Rosso 130
is a little darker than most: Pininfarina factory built and using PPG high water borne paints (HWB). All this is inconclusive .. what I'm leading to is if I do a straight boot swap for one without a spoiler and the colour match is off (red is often faded/weathered or oxidized so it's nearly impossible to find a good match) I'll have to get it painted anyway, so I might as well just look for a cheap bootlid in any color I can find.
Or, do I strip the spoiler and boot lid lining and weld up the holes myself (which I can do) and then spray my current boot when I get around to it (less hassle, and I can do the front bumper at the same time).
If I do swap lids ... how hard is it to remove and refit the lock and scuderia/badge assembly?
Also, what would I need in terms of fitting the 3rd brake light onto the parcel shelf and could I use the wiring leading to the spoiler for this (routing it under the parcel shelf)?? Any other circuitry? Is the parcel shelf internal brake light assembly unit readily available from wreckers? Got one cheap? I think this is mandatory here in Oz as it's factory fitted and could make my car deemed unroadworthy if I don't have the 3rd brake light option.
I'm thinking of removing the spoiler, wiring up the brake light on the parcel shelf and covering the holes in the interim till I get time to weld these, sand and prep the boot lid and find a good painter to colour match what I have. I don't mind having temporary stickers covering up the holes where the spoiler used to attach to.
Any other issues I haven't covered?? I know it's a little mad/daft but I've spent time improving and refurbishing other parts of the car and this visual change is something I'd really like to do.
