Gearbox, transmission, clutch noise?

I started thinking a few weeks back that there was a light rumbling sound coming, so i thought, from the wheels - i assumed the wheel bearings were going. Now the noise is louder- its linked to the gearbox, clutch or transmission. If i am moving, take the car out of gear the noise goes. If i then press the clutch, select a gear (say 4th) and slowly release the clutch (say doing 40 mph) the rumbling noise returns. If i kep the car in gear then depress the clutch and release the noise dissapears and comes back.

Its a 1997 Spider - help - running out of money!!!!

Re: Gearbox, transmission, clutch noise?

Sounds like a loose drive shaft, get under the car and check the bolts at the gearbox end, this sound similar to a thread a couple of months back
