Exhaust Surgery

My standard exhaust is rusting away quite merrily, i have just got a second hand one for when the inevitable happens, i would like to beef up the sound a bit but dont want to spend money, has anyone opened up any of the boxes and took out baffles etc, etc. i can remember doing something similar on a bike, would it work on the car

Just fitted powerflex bushes, going to the doctors next week, bad back

Re: Exhaust Surgery

If you have a welding kit, anything is possible!

The insides will have transverse plates, making chambers, with holes in them. The chambers are connected by tubes, so the exhaust gas passes into each chamber in turn, in a controlled manner.

Obvious candidate for the Vespasian gladius is one of the chamber walls. If you reduce the number of chambers you'll liberate more noise and reduce the exhaust internal pressure.

Re: Exhaust Surgery

I know you sid you don't want to spend money, but Larini stainless steel exhaust can be viewed as an investment, they only cost about £400, and they sound pretty good too

Re: Exhaust Surgery

Why not remove the silencer completely and replace it with a piece of straight pipe. This will make the car sound louder as well as reduce back pressure. Although you want to keep the back box on.
