The CV joints on my ph 2 3.0 decided it was time to go so I changed them and figured new gear oil would be appropriate. I have no idea what was in the box before but I drained it all out and got Syntrax from Castrol (AS THE BOOK SAYS) 75W90 GL5 Synthetic... This stuff is practically liquid gold at the price it sold for...
Anywho, before the CV and gear oil change I had no problems whatsoever changing gears, even when it was cold! Maybe a double clutch here and there just after startup but that would be it... NOW gear changes are a nightmare!
If the car is cold you can barely select first! No scratching but it's like the gear just resists going in, like it's not getting passed the synchro. I have found that when comming to a hault it is easier to slide into first just before stopping completely but when you've already stopped and then try to select first, you are better off walking... Okay, maybe it's not that bad, it's just a struggle but compared to how it was with the old oil, it's faaaaar worse!
Can anyone tell me what was in the gearbox before or have some sort of solution? My 156 SW 2.5 has no difficulty selecting any gear even at cold startup whatsoever... I am just concerned as I don't want to end up damaging the G/box because of inappropriate oil...
As always, thanks guys
