To provide a conclusion to this story. The GTV is now all fixed up and back in my possession! Finally got to take it for a drive today, I did have to put up with London traffic, but that was expected.
The garage I had left it with sent it off to an Alfa specialist in Romford. (Thats all I know, forgot to ask the name of the garage) Turns out the timing belt had jumped 14 teeth!!! Valves were all fine.
On the drive today, I did notice a couple of things:
1: The gear shift lacks lateral spring. Is this a big issue?
2: Starting is is still a terrifying experience of cranking for a about 2-3 seconds till it fires and takes off, and requires a bit of gas to help it. Is this normal? I was told that a compression test showed 12 bar (~170psi) across all cylinders. (not sure if wet/dry compression test either)
