Thanks for the info everyone.
Went back to look at it today (and drive it).
Cambelt change that was supposedly done with an invoice to prove it (turned out to be an estimate!).
Exhaust was producing white smoke (I thought no problem, the engine is cold), but after a 20-30 min drive and the car fully warmed up, it was still the same, lots of white evaporation like smoke. As if it was getting too much water. I checked the coolant and it was well below the min level, even though all other levels were fully topped up. (Last serviced by Alfa in March 06). What does that indicate?
Noise from the rear of the car when driving, almost like something was rolling about in the boot! but everything was strapped down.
Handling: Surprisingly not as sharp as my 156?, it required more of a turn on the wheel to get the car to react. On my 156, I can move the wheel just a few mm and I can feel the car changing direction, not on the GTV, but the ride did feel tighter
Overall I would still like a GTV, but a good one!
