Incidentally, I've been wondering why they deleted the footwell lights from late P1 on ( although the wiring remained in late P1 ).
Only two reasons really come to mind -
1. Cost ( but the bean counters must have factored that in right at the beginning ).
In respect of 2., from what I have seen, the interior light switching inside N82 is done by a transistor. Maybe ( and this is pure speculation ) the device wasn't up to the job of switching everything including the footwell lights, space dictated there couldn't be a relay and heat/space meant the transistor couldn't be uprated. Maybe. Anyway, if it were me putting footwell lights in a late P1 ( as I have done ) or P2/3, I'd do it with LEDs and not the standard 5W bulbs.
One day I'll identify exactly how the switching is done inside the N82 and see if the theory holds up!
