Lazy fuel guage

I've noticed this a couple of times this week, the fuel gauge seems to stick at such a point that the fuel warning light comes stays on (just below 1/4 tank)

The first time I noticed, the car was 1/2 full and eventually as I drove the needle came up the 1/2 (about 15 mins into the journey)

Today, the car was just under 1/2 full and it's stayed under the 1/4 tank point with the fuel warning on for the whole journey

mine was a bit like that.
When my mechanic inspected the fuel pump, the round screw on bit broke and the whole thing had to be replaced, so be careful.
Later it was found that the sender/float was rusty for some reason.
not sure if this helps.

Mine does it every now and then to, usually settles after 5 mins or so. I'll look into the rusty fuel float idea.
