2.0 TS to 3.0 V6 conversion
Has anyone ever done the above? I'm seriously considering it but looking for any advice before i do.
The reason is simple:
I live in Ireland and the road tax for the 3.0 GTV I currently own is €1494 per annum. Road tax for a 2.0 car is €710 so there is a significant saving to be made every year (I plan on keeping my GTV for a long time).
These tax bands are bizarrely based on the chasis number of the car and therefore also on whatever engine was fitted in the factory. It makes no difference to tax band even when you change the engine size on the cars logbook. I obviously would update the engine size and the car would be insured as a 3.0.
My thinking is to buy a 2.0TS GTV (hopefully very cheap with a blown engine) and then transfer the engine/gearbox/suspension/brakes etc from my 3.0 into it.
Can anyone see any major flaws with my plan?
I know it obviously can be done as they have the exact same shell but just how much work would i be looking at? Im hoping the basic wiring looms are the same so i can basically just transfer everything from the firewall forward (and rear subframe) but get away with leaving the dash etc in place.
Thanks in advance!
