When I bought my GTV 3.0 the exhaust was blowing. I took it to a local garage who diagnosed the flexi pipes were shot.
He struggled to source new original down pipes c/w flexi pipes and gave me an estimated price of £300 approx.
He recommended I fit a stainless steel system from the local Longlife
centre in Caerphilly.
Over the phone the girl on the desk quoted me £550 for a Cat back system.
I paid a visit during the Christmas period and spoke to their fitter Peter, and extremely knowledgeable chap who loved Alfas. I wanted the best of both worlds - leave the car close to original but improve the performance and sound, so I let him propose a system. I asked for a loud system but he advised strongly against it - you will love it for a day and it will drive you bonkers for the rest of the time. He proposed a mild to medium system, purrs gently when idle, roars when accelerating, and no drone when cruising. Try it for a couple of weeks. If you're not happy with it bring it back and he will configure the loudness to my taste, free of charge. I'm extremely happy with it, but each to their own.
I must have caught him at a good time - if a bought the system he would replace the Flexi pipes and throw in a tail pipe (as long as it wasn't a fancy one).
I bit the bullet and took him up on the deal. It would have cost me £300 just for the Flexi pipes. and one of the original silencers was starting to go which would need replacing within a 12 month. I was also getting a lifetime guarantee for as long as the system was fitted to the car, even if I sold the car the guarantee would pass to the new owner.
