I once supervised the fixing of a V6 misfire. Went through every thing and could find no faults (which is obviously flawed!).
Next we sat a perfect car beside the faulty one and asked the mechanic to swap every thing until the problem moved from one car to the other. After 2 days he stepped back from this extreme fix and reported that the original car still had the misfire.
So then I took him into a little room and quizzed him about the meaning of 'every thing'.
Turns out the one item that didn't move across was the fuel rail bolts. These are cross drilled to allow the fuel through. A quick check showed one had an incomplete drilling!
