Alfa Romeo Spider performance

Hi, I have recently purchased an Alfa Romeo Spider which was perfect for a couple of weeks and then last night when I took it for a drive I found that there appeared to be a lack of power, almost as though the car was dragging its feet and not able to exceed 70 mph with the foot to the floor. Not knowing much about cars is there anyone that could suggest what the problem may be?

Thanks malcolm

Re: Alfa Romeo Spider performance

The air flow meter is probably the thing you need to look at in the first instance

Re: Alfa Romeo Spider performance

Hi Malcom. Your problem sounds the same as mine. I too bought a 99 Spider and within 3 weeks I had the same problem. Car was fine until you tried to rev beyond 4000rpm. Took it to my local Alfa dealer who fitted a new Air flow meter, some times referred to as air mass meter. Cost £180 and its a totally different car now.

Regards Geoff

Yep, Ditto air flow meter (or MAF) sounds faulty, Should be able to get one off eBay, very easy to fit. Takes about ten minutes with a screwdriver and a pair of pliers all thats needed.

Post which model and which year and I'll have a look on the parts cd and post which part number you need.

Alternately, check out this page
