was it the timing or the auxiliary belt then ????
OK there's three belts on a TS..
Two on a V6
Timing belt .. operates the camshafts and water pump..
If this snaps your engine will self destruct in about half a second..
Balance belt.. if this snaps there's a good chance of it taking out the timing belt..
results .. as above..
(No balance belt on a V6)
Auxiliary belt.. If this snaps you will lose the alternator.. power steering and air con.. if fitted .. no major damage.. easy fix
So for this reason we change the timing belt, balance belt.. and auxiliary belt every three years on a TS.. and I think it is five on a V6 ??
Its not cheap at about 400 quid.. but a lot cheaper than a wrecked engine..
Get a specialist like Autolusso to do it.. it requires specialist knowledge.. procedure.. and tools..
It sounds to me like the auxiliary belt has snapped and the timing belt is soon due for a change.
you were lucky
When I buy one of these cars I always assume that the seller is lying through is teeth and I change the belts..
