After joining last year, I started looking for GTVs for a good price that were mechanically sound, but needing a little bit of TLC here and there so I could make it my own.
On Thursday night, an early phase 2 GTV in grey (grigio) with black leather came up for sale, so I called the seller Friday morning, went down to view it yesterday, and brought it home.
It's a 3.0 V6 with the 5 speed box. It's done 117,300 miles, but has stacks of history and is as tight as a 36,000 mile Spider I drove last year. It pulls like a freight train through every gear, has no squeaks or rattles from the cabin, no knocks from the suspension, the clutch is nice and light, and it goes into gear lovely. It's had thousands of pounds worth of work including rebuilt calipers all round, new discs and pads, 4 decent tyres, new radiator, most of the suspension replaced, history of cambelts, tensioners, aux. belts and water pump, etc.
It needs a little TLC cosmetically:
- The door won't stay open
- There's a blow from the front of the exhaust somewhere
- It needs a new rear light cluster
- It could do with some paint and general tidying up (stone chips, scuff on the rear bumper, etc.)
- It needs a service as the oil is low and looking past its best (sorting this tomorrow)
Other than those minor niggles, it seems solid, drives well, and sounds absolutely fantastic. All for £1,500 too. Couldn't be happier
