TS top engine mount/steady replacement.

Hello folks,

I am getting a thump from the engine bay when I pull away quickly or when the drivers side front wheel hits a bump. The problem is particularly noticable when the engine jerks at low throttle in slow moving traffic (something i have been trying to fix for some time).

It sounds like it is coming from infront of me so I suspect the engine top mount bush has seen better days. The rod itself looks ok but i can move the bush on the engine by hand if I try.

Is this relativly easy to replace? I am sure i won't have any problems butchering the bush out but i am worried about getting the new one in. Do i need a press or will a gclamp be sufficient?.

Just to clarify, it is not the rod i am replacing. It is the bush that is inserted on the same piece of alloy that the Aux organs bolt onto (Power steering and Alternator).

Thanks all.

I watched the guys (at my Alfa specialist) replacing the top engine mount on my V6 and it took 2 guys.

But Im not sure if they were helping each other out or if it can be done by one person. But they had to push it into shape with a bit of muscle.

Not sure if the V6 mount is same as TS either.

I doubt you`ll replace the bush with an OE rubber bush with the bracket in-situ

Powerflex is an option, slightly less hassle then removing the engine, or that bracket. Slightly.

I had mine replaced with a "reconditioned" rubber bush. I didn't believe it could be done - but apparently its ok and never had any problems with it. Also I don't think its a high stress component
