GTV V6 Misbehaving :( Throttle Potentiometer?

Hey guys,

Having a bit of a hair pulling moment with my Bella.
A few weeks ago she was sent in for a clutch change. Since her return she hasn't ridden right for more than two days.

The problem is with its Idle. It seems to have a very erratic, low idle. I believe you refer to it as hunting? and when she is Idling she spits out little backfires every few minutes. When you try to drive her there seems to be a period of lack of acceleration from idle till about 3000 rpm with a plateau ( even if your foot is flat down) and then a surge of power ( Boost almost) up the rest of the rev range.

Took her around to the mac and I was told that the Throttle position potentiometer could be faulty. Being a very costly part are there any checks or tests I can do to confirm that this is the problematic part?

Also is there anything else that could cause this problem? I did an ECU reset a few days ago but after bringing her back from the drive after the reset the problem resurfaced.

Its a 2002 GTV 3.0 V6 ( Phse 2)

Could be the idle actuator, (sometimes known as the idle control valve) always worth a clean up, besides the butterfly area.

Check the air intake pipes for leaks.

Usually with throtle potentiometer faults you do get a delay between pressing the pedal and anything happening, but you shouldn't get any spits or bangs.
