"chugging" or hunting engine on gtv 2.0 ts
My GTV is noting short of a lobour of love. I initially ripped a 2.0 ts engine from a 155 and put it in my 96 which had a buggered bottom end. For 2 months, no problem. The transplant was a complete success.
Now it has started to Intermittently chug a chug or hunt for start up. It's difficult to describe. It sounds like a car which has had too much petrol pumped into her scrambling for a smooth start. The funny thing is it remains like this at idle and never actually cuts out like you'd expect it to. and continues to chug like an old single cylinder shaking the S**te out of the car and me in it. There's an awfull stink of unburned fuel too. However it revs without too much difficulty although i'd say it was about 20% down on power until it eventually sorts itself out and is completely normal again.
Of course the first thing I thought of was the sparks. Changed them with brand new ones. Nothing, still the same.
Then I changed the coils. Still the same.
Then the HT leads, still the same.
ok the, it must be the Mass airflow meter/sensor. Got one from the 155 which is the exact same model which worked before. Guess what?, still the same.
The fault comes and goes and will definitely disappear after 20 minutes of normal driving but it's not an ideal situation.
I think the drive shaft is bent aswell (shakes no matter how well the wheels are balanced and at 85+ mph and not the usual 60mph, can also feel vibrations through the gear stick). but that's another day's gripe (will that cost me much and will the one from the 155 work, [I doubt it though])
Any thoughts guys, I'm totally baffled.
