Well the Spider's back in the garage and I'm back at fixing it up again this time for 2015(obviously!)! The plan this year will be:
- Refurb Hood Release Motor
- Replace the Gearbox
- Replace the Gearstick
- Clean of Rusty underparts and paint to protect
- Oil and Filter Service
Mainly posting this should anyone need any help along the way for a box replacement etc but also nice to show the progress to anyone interested
I've taken the roof motor apart a couple of weeks back and it seems to be back working now I've cleaned up all of the commutator and brush parts. Proof will come when it's all fitted back in.
I have the car up on the jacks at the front. Using some fat chunks of wood I have it raised really quite high and should have plenty of space for when the 'box is dropped:
I've pulled out the exhaust front sections and that's given me the access I needed:
With the handbrake cables released I've managed to get the heat shielding off and after some arguments with material shielding, I have the old gearstick out:
Look at the state of it compared to the replacement I have!!! The ball joint is in four pieces!!:
Next up will be a good start of the cleaning underneath. I plan to clean off the sills a bit, the bits around the front subframe, under the rad and finally remove then refurb the strengthening plates between the subframe and centre of the car... Any other bits easy enough to remove to clean off and paint up while I have decent access (especially when the box is off)??
I have a GTV ready to pull the gearbox from but I might drive it about for a few months first
Wish me luck!
