Sudden/random coolant leak
Shortly after leaving the house yesterday morning I noticed my engine was VERY hot. I hit traffic soon after leaving typically but the temp usually takes a good 10 mins before its up to 90 whilst crawling/idling. Long story short virtually zero coolant in the tank. Turned back for home and filled up with water. There are no obvious leaks, and after refilling I set off again and all was normal. After work, I checked the level and it had dropped a little so topped up again. Come this morning, the level has barely moved - no top up required… So I thought I had a slow leak, but is now inconsistent.
On the morning I encountered the problem, I did turn the air con on before I set off to clear the windscreen (The first time I've turned it on in ages). Is there anyway this could be related? Could there be a fault with the air con that basically caused the sudden leak? (the windscreen just would not clear or get warm - probably due to there being no coolant).
I should also point out that a couple of days before I'd done a 300 mile round trip (largely high speed motorway) - probably the furthest solid trip I've done in the Spider. Could that have caused a pipe to loosen or something?
Going to try and take a look this weekend to see if I can see anything obvious, but in the mean time I'll just have to keep checking the level. I know there's danger of freezing if the weather gets colder but otherwise in the short term am I safe to not have any coolant in the water?
