Sorry for the delay but I return with great news!
I arranged with someone to collect the MAF from Alfa, last week Friday and the part numbers for the CF3 MAF are as follows:
Bosch (Housing): 0280 218 054
Bosch (Sensor): F00C 2G2 044
Alfa Part No: 55193049
I managed to get the MAF from the Alfa dealer for R984.32. This saved me a wopping R2500!
I only managed to fit the MAF today as I had to mend the rubber intake hose that cracked and tore on the corrugated section. This was simply done by cleaning the hose with a solution that does not leave a residue and by filling the outer and inner section with Loctite Grey Silicone and leaving it to dry for 24 hours (I believe this silicone was initially used to make children. You don't see them falling apart, now do you?). I know some of you would simply suggest replacing the hose but the dealers are too costly and there are a few too many factors that need to be considered/ignored for me to simply exchange the pipe with an aftermarket solution.
I cleaned out the air box, sprayed the air cleaner from the inside out with compressed air and made sure that the air filter is 283mm long (Not replaced with a 156 air filter, which is about 10mm shorter causing sealing issues that could lead the MAF failure), fitted the now sealing hoses and connected the MAF. I did some research over the weekend and I have read that members suggest doing an ECU reset after replacing the MAF.
Upon the very first start (during the ECU reset) THE ENGINE LIGHT STAYED ON!
I ignored the light and continued with the reset as specified...
The last step was to test drive the GTV using different driving styles. As soon as I reached the gate, the light went off!!!
During the test drive the car drove like a dream and passed with flying colors!!! No funny hickups or flat spots, everything worked as it should!
I also noticed the following:
The intermittent jerk when pulling away from stationary is no longer there (Could have been the torn intake pipe or the MAF)
The fuel gauge is no longer going crazy. It seems to react immediately to refills and no longer bounces around (Could have been the reset or maybe it just didn't do it yet)
I want to thank all the guys on the Alfa Owner Forum and all the guys at Alfa for their assistance. I managed to find all the info I needed on this site. The information supplied was correct and I'm smiling all the way after saving a couple of thousand!!! Thanks AO and to all the members/Alfisti who keep helping other Alfa owners!
