just had quote from Intaservices of leicester for my cambelt on my spider. spoke to nice chap called dom, said it would be 439.25 (thats vat included) for the cambelt and all gubbins + static roller which i'd not heard of before. he said if variator needs doing it would be 562.52 quid. sounds about as what i bugeted but should i get variator changed anyway and does all this seem right. he also metioned maybe getting water pump sorted out and changed to metal one as 1997 spiders have plastic ones, said would be about 30 quid.
I had the whole lot changed on my GTV (apart from the water pump) for just under £400, would've been around £300 if the variator hadn't needed changing. I didn't get charged any extra labour for the variator, it was just parts cost and 4 hours labour @ £25/h.
That's at Peak Alfa in Hope Valley, probably a bit far for you. I'd try getting some more quotes though, £562 sounds quite a lot. Motor Mech in Birmingham will do the full cambelt job for £250, that's without variator though.
Hi - dont know whether it anything to go on but i am in contact with a guy in aylesbury - bucks that does the whole lot, variators, tensioners etc for 290 all in. I wish i had found him earlier because i got the lot done for about 500.
sounds like a road trip to berkshire!! save the money on the service for a little bit of petrol - or lots if you drive over 3000rpm!!
