1996 Spider v6

Just bought a spider v6 and noticed that I was not getting any fluid from the pump to the windscreen.

I traced the pipes back and finally managed to uncouple the pipe from the motor.

The motor works but there was no fluid coming out.

Do I need a new motor / pump? Or does anyone have any suggestions?

If I need a new pump could someone recommend a supplier?

Thanks in advance - John

It's likely to be one of two things..........

..Pump filter blocked with "gunge" from washer tank....pull the pump up out of the tank, the black seal it sits in has a filter attached..if no water flows from this when the pump is removed then it's blocked...........easy to fix

...Or it could be a problem with the one way flow valve under the scuttle panel cover,a little round jobby which splits the flow to each washer arm and maintains a head of fluid to the spray arms..............these can play up,quite easy to fix but Alfa have been a bit tight fisted with the pipes under there, not a lot of spare to play with........

96 V6.....Guess thats a left hooker or an import then?

Thanks very much for the tip I'll let you know how i get on.

Yes its an import but has been converted. The only issue is that the brakess have a really dead feel as there is a cross shaft from the brake servo to the pedal

Otherwise a really nice car.

Just noticed the same issue on my Spider. Comes out ok-ish, but as a dribble. Thanks for the tip Flo - will check it out

Re: 1996 Spider v6

don't forget to prime the pump before refiiting, did this on my 155, put it all back together and........nothing.......had to strip again, prime using a cup of water and refit, perfect. Still can't understand why as when the washers run out it self primes but hey how you have been warned
