916 Spider door mirror glass replacement

Hi folks, first post here so hoping for the best!!

The wife's '99 Spider door mirror glass has stopped moving when trying to adjust. I can hear the motor whirring, and the mirror does 'flick' slightly but no proper adjustment. I suspect the glass is partially detached from the mechanism????

I have a workshop manual (original Alfa) but can't find any reference to the mirrors.....

Anyone out there got any idea how I check the glass is correctly attached to the mechanism.

Thanks in advance!

Unlikely that this will be your problem but mine would occasionally do this, seemed to be stuck and just move a little and then spring back to where it was. Just a push on the Mirror Glass and all would go back to normal operation.

Got to be worth a shot !

Mine were sticking ..
I just fired about half a tin of WD 40 in behind the mirror.. using the long red spout thing ..
Whilst playing with the button..

Had the same problem and took my mirror apart. It turned out to be on of the motors that was a little loose, and the gear on the motor didn't engage with its counterpart any more. I was able to adjust it by bending the plastic mount for the motor, BUT, and this is a big BUT:
The mirrors aren't intended to be taken apart. I was lucky and didn't damage mine more than I could get it together again, but don't start taking the mirror apart unless you are prepared to waste it.

Try the tips already mentioned in the thread, and if they don't work, my suggestion is that you get a new mirror from someone breaking a car, or just adjust the mirror manually by pushing the glass.

Here are some pictures of when I took the mirror apart, and some text about it in Swedish. It's too much to translate it all:
