Anyone swapped a manual hood for an electric (just the hood)!
I shall finally be fitting the new roof to my Spider on the weekend.
My car is a P2 with a manual roof.
The replacement roof came from a p2 with an electric roof.
There are some differences on the roof frames...... the manual roof has a gas ram on each side to aid lowering/raising the roof - the electric version has a few extra arms on the frame to hook up with the motors etc.
I have removed the extra arms from the new roof (just a few bolts and ill be saving them should I ever need them).
Has anyone ever done this swap - did you successfully manage to swap over the gas rams or did you just plonk the electric roof in sans rams....?
I appreciate without the rams the new roof will be heavier, but I only drive the car in nice weather and the roof will be almost permanently down - as long as its not impossible to do, then ill be happy.
Further to this, has anyone ever successfully transferred the electric roof gubbins across in to a manual roof car?
